Hello! I’m Siltn Depuydt and I’d like to share with you the experience of my 3 month internship at Studio 24.

Coming all the way from Howest University in Belgium, I wanted to explore new horizons and immerse myself in a different working culture. Join me on a journey through the exciting highlights of my stay abroad!

Motivation and arrival

Ever since I participated in an international project last year, I have been fascinated by cross-cultural experiences. So this time I was very motivated to find opportunities abroad and Studio 24 was my first choice.

I was already a big fan of the Laravel framework they use, so I was excited to work with them and learn more about how the company works.

My father accompanied me on the journey over. It was long, but worth it. We took the Eurostar from Bruges and arrived at my new apartment at 4pm. The other people living there made me feel at home from the start.

Internship challenges and growth

The main project I could work on was: ‘Add Google OAuth to the internal website and manage calendars using the Google API and its great new features’.

It took me a while to get used to it as it was my first time working with a large team, but I quickly knew who to contact if I had any questions. The number one thing I learned during my internship was how to work well with others and how companies really work.

Cultural immersion and exploration

While concentrating on my internship, I tried to explore the culture of the UK. During my weekends and free time, I went on adventures to different places.

I visited busy London for the weekend and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. I also had a wonderful trip to Winchester and immersed myself in its fascinating history.

And let’s not forget an unforgettable week-long journey through Scotland’s breathtaking landscapes.

Gratitude

I want to thank Simon for welcoming me to his agency and offering me a life-changing internship opportunity. His support and guidance meant a lot to me.

Also thanks to Kate for showing me around Cambridge when I arrived and making me feel right at home. And of course, a huge thank you to Gareth, Claire, Alan and Sean for their incredible support, always by my side when I had questions.

Conclusion

This 3 month internship at Studio 24 was a great experience. Every part of this journey has made a lasting impact on me, from adapting to a new work environment to improving my technical skills.

I am grateful for the friendships I have made abroad, the knowledge I have gained, and the memories I will never forget. This internship definitely shaped my career goals and cemented my love for international work.

Thank you for reading about my journey. I hope my experience inspires you to explore cross-cultural adventures and explore limitless possibilities outside your comfort zone.

It’s been fantastic having Siltn with us. He’s worked really well with the team and has done some impressive Laravel development and API integration work during his time here, including some really useful improvements to our team intranet which will be really useful for years to come. It’s been a pleasure to work with Siltn and I wish him the best for his future studies and career!
