Cake personalisation website with a bespoke e-Commerce system


The client

The Baker Days website is the brain child of Alan Hawkes, an experienced entrepreneur with several web projects to his name already. 
Looking to break in to the e-commerce personalisation market dominated by and Moon Pig, he developed the concept of a unique cake ordering site that gave customers the ability to personalise a design and schedule the delivery of a letterbox size cake for days, weeks or months in advance, with no need for a signature on delivery.

The challenge 

Studio 24 were approached by the client at the very beginning, before Baker Days even had a name. The client wanted to utilise Studio 24’s technical capabilities to scope out the best solution to meet their objectives. 

Using the project scoping phase enabled Studio 24 to research suitable technologies for managing not only the personalisation functionality and e-commerce area of the site, but also the user experience to encourage purchase.

Through meetings and discussions between the client and Studio 24’s project team, a detailed specification document for the project was produced. The document acted as a ‘road map’ to efficiently guide the team when building the website and ensured the client was not committing themselves to a project where he was unsure of the final deliverables.

The solution

The result of months of planning and hard work, is the website The website is driven by a powerful bespoke CMS, designed and built by Studio 24. It efficiently manages all the products and services available, and content on certain pages.

The personalisation functionality Studio 24 recommended and integrated, allows customers to design their own cake/s using either a template with editable text and photo areas, or upload images and customise the layout themselves. Everything from the cake size, flavour and additional gifts can be personalised, with customers even able to schedule the delivery.
