Social media

Page contents
  • Hashtags and handles
  • Decorative lettering

All the advice provided elsewhere in this guide applies to social media content. Here we focus on two specific issues.

Hashtags and handles

Use UpperCamelCase to improve readability

  • When writing out hashtags and social media handles, start each new word in the text string with a capital letter: #MakingLifeEasier
  • It makes them more legible for everybody.
  • It helps prevent embarrassing situations, where our eyes might be drawn to unintended words.

Decorative lettering

There are online tools that can convert text to highly decorative lettering for copying and pasting into posts.

Avoid fancy text generators

  • They can make text hard to read for sighted people.
  • Screen readers may make an extra announcement before each character, making it hard to understand.
  • Some screen readers will completely ignore such text.
