Crafting a digital strategy for our latest e-commerce client

The client

Bright Ideas is a well-established and successful wholesale arts and crafts supplier. They specialise in devising and sourcing products globally for distribution to retail, wholesale and mail order markets including education, office supplies and homewares.

With an extensive product range they have over 1000 arts and crafts items available to purchase directly from their website.

The project

The Bright Ideas team approached us to completely redesign their website with the brief of a new professional and responsive site to reflect their updated brand.

The objectives of the new site were to improve the presentation of the product range, clearly communicate competitive pricing across the site, and ultimately increase online sales across the board.

The solution

To meet the project objectives we carried out the following work:

  • We explored the user experience (UX), looking at the different types of customers and creating detailed personas. We also developed a content strategy, ensuring clean primary navigation and clear paths to the shopping basket.
  • The site was built in a responsive manner to ensure it worked across all devices and to help with site stability for the future.
  • We used the popular and high quality open source e-commerce system WooCommerce to build their online shop. This sits on top of their WordPress CMS platform and has a range of features including a simple to use admin system, detailed reports to show purchase activity, and user reviews/star ratings on products.
  • Additional e-commerce plugins were added to allow further functionality on the site which included: dynamic pricing, wish lists, postcode address validation, product CSV import and newsletter subscription.
  • To develop Bright Ideas’ digital marketing strategy and reach out to new audiences they took out an SEO contract with us. This begun with a site migration thorough URL redirects, implementing a meta detail strategy and other essential technical SEO tasks to launch the site.
  • As part of the ongoing SEO work we are working with the Bright Ideas team to ensure their pages and content are fully optimised. We are also working on strengthening their online presence with partnerships with blog sites and other craft suppliers. We work closely with the Bright Ideas team and provide detailed reports and plans each month.
